Revenue filter options

Who can use this feature?

Revenue-related filters allow you to segment customers based on renewal and churn values for historical or future quarters.

Filter definitions

Revenue filters in segmentation may vary slightly from how Revenue Center defines these terms. Segmentation filters include the following.

1. Churned accounts

Contract was canceled within the specified forecast period.

2. Renewable accounts

  • Contract start date (or create date if used instead) is prior to the forecast period AND
  • Account status remains in "Paying" throughout (and before) the specified forecast period AND
  • Contract renewal date:
    • is not set OR
    • was set prior to the current period and is within the specified forecast period OR
    • is set during the current period and within the specified forecast period
For example, imagine your forecast period is July-Sept (Q3) of the current year. The following changes on an account would affect whether the account is qualified as renewable for that period:
  • Renewable: On June 1, you set the renewal date to Aug 1.
    • Renewal date was set prior to the current period and is within the period.
  • Not renewable: On June 1, you set the renewal date to Oct 1.
    • Renewal date was set prior to the current period but is not within the period.
  • Renewable: On June 1, you set the renewal date to June 2. Then on Aug 14, you updated the renewal date to Sept 1.
    • Renewal date was set during the current period and within the specified period.
  • Not renewable: On June 1, you set the renewal date to June 2. Then on Aug 14, you updated the renewal date to Sept 1. A few days later, you change the renewal date to Sept 1 of the following year.
    • Renewal date was set during the current period but not within the specified period (e.g., same quarters but different years).
  • Renewable: Renewal date isn't set by July 1 (start of period) and remains unset through Sept 30 (end of period).
    • Contract renewal date is not set.

An account will always show as "Renewable" for the quarter if the renewal date was in the quarter on the first day of the quarter. The renewables list remains the same as it was on the first day of the quarter unless historical data was changed.

3. Renewed accounts

  • Account status remains in "Paying" throughout (and before) the specified forecast period AND
  • Contract renewal date:
    • was prior to the end of the forecast period
    • was updated during the forecast period
    • the new renewal date extends beyond forecast period
For example, if your forecast period is July-Sept, the following changes on an account would qualify as renewed.
  • Original date: April 15 (prior to the end of the forecast period)
  • Update date: Aug 1 (during the forecast period)
  • New date: Nov 13 (extends beyond forecast period)

You can query specific historical periods; however, trend over time is not available for these metrics. Segments that rely on these filters are not available for reports.

Admins can set the Financial Year Settings in Settings > General, including start of year (month) and current financial year.

Create a segment with revenue filters

  1. Create a new account segment, or open an existing segment.

    • In next <month|quarter>
    • In previous <month|quarter>
    • In a specific <month|quarter> <year(optional)>
  4. Click Apply Filter. The matching records appear in the grid.

Edit revenue segment columns

Additionally, the following segment columns are available for a selected time period. These values are automatically calculated based on changes to Contract Renewal Date and Contract Value:

  • Renewable Revenue: Contract value for Renewable Accounts
  • Renewed Revenue: Contract value for Renewed Accounts
  • Upsell Revenue: New contract value minus old contract value for Renewed Accounts
  • Downgraded Revenue: Old contract value minus contract value for Renewed Accounts
  • Lost Revenue: Contract value for Churned Accounts
