Attributes and data types

Who can use this feature?

Attributes and data types determine how account and user data is represented and stored.

  1. Available types vary by data object.
  2. Dimensions allow you to categorize your attributes, which you can leverage in a multidimensional health model.
  3. Totango provides a number of system attributes (also known as named attributes).
  4. You can create your own attributes from within Data Modeler (all types) or during an integration (types limited to Text, Number, Date, Currency, Foreign Key).
  5. Visibility and retention options vary by attribute and/or object.
  6. Attribute values can be sent from API or other systems. Depending on the source, you can adjust editability within Totango and default values.

Attribute types

Account attributes save a historical record of changes to view trends over time. User attributes do not save a historical record of changes.

Data Type Account User Totango user
Lifecycle Status - -
mceclip2.png Contains pre-defined stages to automatically track time between each one until an "end stage" is reached. If setting a stage from an integration, the value must match the name of the stage (case sensitive).
Currency - -

mceclip4.png

Contains numerical values displayed as currency. Choose the currency to display from a list of 100+ global currencies. Decide on international (0,000.00) or EU (0.000,00) format. Limitations: Only one currency can be set per attribute; Totango does not perform conversions.
Foreign Key - -
mceclip11.png Stores external account IDs from other systems outside of Totango via data source integration. Limitations: Stored as lowercase (case insensitive).
List - -
mceclip5.png Contains a list of predefined options that allows for one selection. Drag-and-drop to re-sort list at any time. Supports any combinations of text, numbers, or special characters.
Multi-Select List -
mceclip9.png Contains a list of predefined options that allows for one or more selections. Drag-and-drop to re-sort list at any time. Supports any combinations of text, numbers, or special characters.
Text
mceclip8.png Contains any textual data. The value will display as is. Totango identifies links and displays the text as linkable. Limitations: Up to 512 characters (account attributes) or 255 characters (user attributes)
Date
mceclip7.png Contains date values. Values should be sent with complying with ISO 8601 (i.e., it should have following date format: "yyyy-mm-ddThh:mm:ss.sZ" or ""yyyy-mm-dd"). If this data is synced via Customer Data Hub, use source formatting to handle the above use case.
Number
mceclip10.png Contains any numeric value. Positive and negative values are supported. Integer and decimal values are supported. Limitations: Commas are not supported (i.e., values should be sent as 1000 instead of 1,000). If this data is synced via Customer Data Hub, use source formatting to handle the above use case.
NPS - -
mceclip13.png Store the response of an NPS survey. Creation of an NPS attribute automatically creates attributes for NPS comment and NPS response date.
CSAT - -
mceclip12.png Store the response of an CSAT survey. Creation of an CSAT attribute automatically creates attributes for CSAT comment, CSAT response date, high CSAT reasons, and low CSAT reasons.

Custom Metric

Custom metrics are calculated fields based on account attributes. Custom metrics apply to the account object only and are not calculated for accounts in "Canceled" status. Custom metrics save a historical record of changes once created.

Data Type Parameters
Calculated
Currency, String, Integer, Decimal, Percent
Choose other account-level numerical attributes, engagement metrics, usage metrics, or numerical input to build calculations using mathematical operators.
mceclip14.png Display and segmentation options include value or % change (yesterday, in the last 3, 7, 14, 30, 90 days).

Hierarchy Roll-up

Hierarchy roll-ups allow you to display aggregated values on parent accounts from child accounts. Hierarchy roll-ups apply to the account object only.

Data Type Parameters
Aggregated
Average and/or Sum
Choose other account-level numerical attributes, engagement metrics, or usage metrics. Aggregate values using a sum, average, or sum and average from the attribute values on child accounts.
mceclip16.png Depending on the formula chosen, display options include "Show value for current account" (editable), "Show roll-up value as sum" (not editable), or "Show roll-up value as average" (not editable).

Collection

A collection is a set of attributes displayed on an account object. No historical data is collected for collection objects.

Data Type Parameters

Collection Attributes

Key, Text, Number, Currency, Date, List, Multi-Select List

Sores transactional information related to an account. Collection attributes represent the column within the collection. Limitations: A collection name cannot include a slash (/).
