The matrix component adds a powerful way to visualize and compare grouped data in custom reports. Use it to break down key metrics by categories, like region or segment, and apply custom aggregations to uncover insights.
Configure a matrix
- From a custom report, click to add the matrix component to your report workspace.
- On the Source tab, define the "Group By" field.
- Select a field to determine how rows are organized in the component.
- Choose to display all or specific values from the Group By field in your table.
- Add a new column.
- Click to add a new column to your matrix.
- Rename the column to something descriptive, and choose your color.
- Select the aggregation type:
- SUM
- PERCENTAGE
- AVERAGE
- MEDIAN
- MINIMUM
- MAXIMUM
- Select the attribute you want to aggregate in the column.
- Create the segment that will define what data is aggregated.
- Optionally add report header columns for the following:
- Sum of "sum" columns
- Average of columns
- Median of columns
- Minimum of columns
- Maximum of columns
- On the Design tab, provide a title and description.
Considerations:
- Each column can have a different segment applied, but keep in mind that we are looking for accounts that have the overlap of being within the grouped attribute.
- When using percentage aggregation, select two segments: 1) Numerator - the value you are measuring, and 2) Denominator - the base comparison value.
- The highest cell value determines 100% color intensity. Example: If the highest value is 60%, then a 30% value will have 50% opacity (0.5).
- Each column can be sorted independently to create a leaderboard-style ranking.
- After making changes to the source data, it may take up to 24 hours to refresh.
