Update tags from a data file

Who can use this feature?

Tags identify an account or user with a custom label. You can automatically apply or remove tags using a data file integration (CSV).

Prepare your CSV file

Include each tag name as a separate column in the CSV file using this format: tag##. For example, tag##reference-account. For each account row, leave blank or add a tag value. Tag values can be one of the following:

  • Use "yes" or "true" (lowercase) to add the tag
  • Use "no" or "false" (lowercase) to remove the tag
  • Use empty to not change the existing tag (if any)

Review the example file below:

In this example, tag##reference account will not be changed, tag##support will be added to account123, and tag##old account will be removed (if exists).

You can include tags and attributes in the same file.

Upload the CSV file

  1. From the Settings menu, expand Data Management > Customer Data Hub.
  2. Click Local File.
  3. Click the plus button and select Upload Data.
  4. Choose the "Accounts" or "Users" option based on your use case.
  5. Follow the steps to configure a file integration described in this article. The tag attributes section will appear when the automatic mapping locates the tag column header format.

In case a tag does not exist, it will be created by integration job.
