As a data platform, importing data from various data sources is fundamental to the Totango architecture. Equally important is getting that data out of Totango and back into your data warehouse and analytic platforms. With several tools already built into Totango, this couldn't be easier.
This document will guide you through the process of extracting data from Totango.
Building Segments and Exporting Data
To begin the extraction process, first define a segment of Accounts or Users that you would like to export. This can include “All”, but more typically this will include a subset of data needed for offline processing, ad hoc marketing or other analysis.
Step 1: Create an Active List for Accounts or Users.
Step 2: Define the criteria to filter this list. This can be all data, or a subset of data segmented by attributes, custom metrics, activities and more.
Step 3: Export the data.
You have two options for handling data from Totango, either download the data as a .csv file which will include the columns and sort order you supplied during the Active List setup, or, you can let Totango automatically generate an API endpoint that defines this segment.
The API endpoint will allow you to dynamically retrieve segmented data directly from the Totango platform using any technology required. This can include custom middleware components that continually retrieve data from Totango and bring that data into your architecture.
Exporting Report Data
In addition to downloading raw data from Totango, you can also export report data from defined reports. This data can be used to drive custom charts and graphs for inclusion in presentations, custom dashboards and more.
Configuring these exports is simple;
Step 1: Create or select a Report from within Totango.
Step 2: From the Overall report trend, or from any of the individual report Breakdown areas, click the drop-down arrow next to the section title.
Step 3: Select “Export to CSV” and follow the prompts to download the data.
Advanced Data Requirements
If your business requirements dictate even deeper levels of data integration, our engineering team can accommodate those needs. This can include direct access to the underlying data that is driving the Totango platform experience for your instance. This data can be retrieved in JSON format without the need to generate CSV files or the API endpoints.
